With all of the media circus lately of the Casey Anthony trial and Kat being there to witness it, I am curious how people feel about the death penalty and WHY?
The Casey Anthony trial is sad regardless of the verdict. As a society, we havent evolved much from the days of public hangings & beheading. The verdict and punishment always seem to overshadow the fact that a life was lost. (just my opinion)

I agree with you shelly......As someone that has been falsely accused and locked up, I hate the thought of someone being proven innocent after they have been put to death. I have mixed emotions about the death penalty. All I know for certain is that if you kill an innocent man there is no fixing that, If a guilty man goes free you can still try to prove them guilty and lock them up. I know that they have double jeopardy but trust me the law has plenty of ways to convict someone on the same charge just by changing the name of it. Just my thoughts on the matter....

I am for the death penalty in saying that I have to say that the country I live in Australia doesnt have capital punishment. I dont think that capital punishment is going to be reinstated in this country anytime soon it was abolished i believe in the 1960s & the last man hung here was Ronald Ryan in 1967. It was shown later that he was actually hung as an innocent man, hence capital punishment was looked at then abolished. I believe that when a person has committed a crime then the sentencing needs to reflect the crime, a person who has broken the law has lost their rights. The part I find incredible with the penal system is that we give prisoners their "rights" ie TV, internet & education...dont get me started on rehabilitation!! If a person has committed a crime such as murder then the punishment must be one that fits the crime, Im all for the death penalty in certain cases such as cold blooded murder (Martin Bryan) google that name & then explain to me why he is still alive in prison & we the tax payers are paying for him to be rehabilitated??!!! Maybe its because the country I live in doesnt have capital punishment that im so for it, all I know is that the justice system is failing the innocent & people are walking out of jails supposedly rehabilitated, the best case of this was the murderer of Danile Valerio who got early parole & walked free with a home, job & new identity supplied for him when he left jail what about the rights of the young boy he killed? I work in the social service sector & its because of the death of Daniel Valerio that I along with teachers, doctors, police, fellow social & welfare workers are mandated to report child abuse...that is the only good thing to come out of the death of Daniel Valerio. It saddens me that the young life of Caylee Anthony was taken too soon, but then her mum apparently never reported her daughter missing for a month??? The saddest thing is that Casey Anthony may go on to have more children, surely this is a right that she should no longer be entitled to...
