fears

Well, the question is what are your fears: death is the big one for me and wondering if anyone will come to my funeral. Someone will pay for a large room. I will be there, cremated. if my parents are alive, they will come but I have burned so many bridges, the room may be empty. Too cryptic I know, but that is my fear that my son will be at his mother's funeral in an empty room and realize his mother was nothing special when he thought I was.............keeps me awake at night as lots of things do.

All my fears boil down to fear of being abandoned. All my life I have had people leave me and it feels like that is all my fault, that I'm not good enough still for people to want to stay with me.

Fears are just such a difficult thing. Thank you for sharing yours. I hope there will come a time for you when you believe you have minimized future regrets enough that a powerful fear like this one is something that no longer keeps you awake. No matter the circumstances, I have no doubt your son's love will fill the entire building.

You are not only good enough, you are fortunate enough to have had so many people be important to you in your life that you are able to mourn the departure of each of them. What a good soul you must have to feel so deeply! We all enter and leave the lives of others, the pain you feel when someone leaves yours is no different than the pain left by you when the times come that move you along on your path.

It is my hope you will find peace with this. Fear of abandonment is such a big one to put into a different perspective, but when you do the world will feel like someone just threw a light switch!

I think I only have two main fears. I don't fear death, only fear not being able to achieve what I want first. So one fear is for my health to physically hold me back from my dreams in life.

The other is for my parents to die before I have the chance to forgive and forget the past, and build a good relationship with them.

Being an avid follower of Stephen Hawking's, I cannot help but harbor some angst over the idea of my body giving out while my mind stays sound. That said, I would rather that than the reverse.

It is my fervent belief that we can never know the beauty of light if we have not known the depth of darkness. In this way, then, I think transgressions against us have potential to become beautiful things if we can harness them for something positive. I sincerely hope you will be able to find peace to fuel the forgiveness that will reunite you with the warmth of your family.

Share even one part of the very essence of who you are with someone else. After touching one life in that way, the domino effect kicks in and every other life exponentially touched by that initial sharing makes it impossible to ever be forgotten.

Perhaps the statement of this much-shared fear by so many will reach people you never dreamed would be effected by your bravery.

I bet we all share that one at some point in our lives. At some point along the way I stopped looking for someone else to fill that void in me, and began to focus more on being able to give of myself to others in meaningful ways.

The unexpected result was that the void became (and continues to be) smaller and less painful over the years. However you move through life, I hope you will find an inadvertent result that is similar. May you find the peace that passes all understanding.

What are the dreams you want to follow that you cannot follow right now? Do you think fulfilling those dreams might help in your self-discovery process?

For what it's worth, I'm not sure any of us ever really know our place in this world. We just keep truckin' as they say.
